Shih Tzu Haircuts - Groom or Trim?
You may just be considering the Shih Tzu breed or maybe you have one, but sooner or later, you'll probably start to wonder just what to do about Shih Tzu haircuts. Many folks who fall in love with the Shih Tzu breed are attracted by their beautiful, long, flowing coat. And although their intentions are all great, some may tend to have a hard time keeping their schedule for grooming and bathing their dog. Is there an easier way?
When a Shih Tzu dog is arrayed in all its glory it is beautiful, but time consuming. Expect to spend approximately twenty minutes everyday grooming your dog to keep him in his finest appearance. It will also be advisable to spend about two hours once a week in giving your dog a bath and a thorough grooming. But even though these hours spent in grooming your dog do take up time, they can be very beneficial to your relationship and can be a great time for bonding with your dog.
The alternative is commonly known as the "puppy trim" and simply entails a close trim that doesn't require near the amount of grooming time. If you choose the puppy trim it is advisable to groom your pet every day, with a small brush or comb, in order to prevent tangles. Experienced groomers can trim your Shih Tzu's coat in such a way that will make even an older dog look young as a puppy. With the puppy trim your Shih Tzu will be cooler in warm summer weather and will tend to be mat-free.
Whichever style of Shih Tzu haircuts you wish your pet to sport, the time spent with your dog is rewarding and will lead to a happy and healthy Shih Tzu.
